Contest Information Page
unpublishedgem.com
Welcome.  These contests are being sponsored by my official website ...
unpublishedgem.com

For this first contest, there will soon be a link on this page, that will allow
you to enter the contest.  It is very simple.  The contest will involve sending
a small essay that is 300 words or less, describing in your best literary skill,
how you feel that a fictional location that is mentioned in my novel
The
Crystal Dream
(by me - Thomas F. Dawn) coincides with an actual location
in the town of Hastings, Minnesota.  Accompanying photos are welcome,
and a P.O. Box will also be available if you prefer to send it via snail mail.
As mentioned above, let it be known that the fictional location of "Three
Rivers, Minnesota", is loosely based upon the town I grew up in, namely the
city of Hastings, Minnesota ... and as such, if you have some knowledge of
the town, you will recognize exterior locations mentioned in my novel, that
have good matching locations in the city of Hastings, itself.  The quality of
the photos you may or may not send are not being judged, just your essay
skills.  Think of it as extra credit.
It isn't important to have an in-depth knowledge of the city, as actual
locations are really only hinted at, and there is no "perfect" answer - so
what you will be judged upon is how well you recognize a similarity, and
present your view in print.  Please, feel free to drive around town and take a
lot of pictures.  The locals are very friendly.  I promise!
Also, there is no purchase necessary, as you can always check out my novel
at the local library - and if they don't have a copy, urge them to get a few
more copies, and let them know that you're not alone!

The second contest will be similar to the first, but instead of locations, what
I would like you to write about, in 300 words or less, is what you feel will
happen to one of the characters in the story, after they grow up.  Or, if you
prefer, tell me what you think an interesting plot twist would be for a future
sequel.  Thank you.
